Funding for collaborative projects

If your research would benefit from the use of advanced software engineering, systems integration, high throughput or distributed computing, we can help. The funding streams detailed below are particularly relevant for projects relevant to our areas of expertise. As project partners, we can also assist with the hiring, accommodation and management of IT staff, provide support in the use of CamGrid and support training and knowledge transfer activities. To discuss working with us, please contact Michael Simmons.

EPSRC

Challenging Engineering. Aimed specifically at early career stage academics, this scheme aims to support the establishment of new research groups with up to £1M available over 5 years. Proposals are expected to fall within one of these 3 subject areas: (i) Materials, Mechanical and Medical Engineering, (ii) Information and Communications Technology (ICT) or (iii) Process, Environment and Sustainability. The closing date for applications is 11th August 2010

Statement of Need for a Collaborative Computational Project. CCPs bring together groups from across the UK in a particular area of computational research. CCPs support software development and networking activities, usually with technical support from the Daresbury Laboratory. The purpose of this call is to assess community requirements rather than fund particular activities. The closing date for submissions is 1st October 2010.

STFC

Innovations Partnership Scheme (IPS). The aim of IPS is to support the transfer of technology from STFC funded research to industry or other academic disciplines, with a view to commercialisation. Mini-IPS proposals (up to £150K over 12 months) may be submitted at any time. The next closing date for full IPS awards (up to £150K p.a. over 3 years) is 5th October 2010.

Technology Strategy Board

Current open calls focus on assisted living, the built environment, advanced networking and digital security. The lead partner must be a commercial entity. Closing dates vary.

EU FP7

The EU Seventh Framework Programme (FP7) funds cross-European research in a number of thematic areas. The ICT FET open call is of particular relevance to us. See also the Research Office guidance on FP7
